Vegetable Salad is a dish based on vegetables with addition of further ingredients such as cheese, mushrooms, eggs, legumes, and seafood. Vegetable salads are mostly vegetarian, although some may contain seafood. A typical vegetable salad is served with a blend of olive oil, vinegar, and seasoning.
Preparation
Vegetable salad generally involves simple preparation procedure. Vegetables are commonly served raw. Other ingredients, such as cheese, mushrooms, and beans, are typically not cooked as well. These types of salad require simple kitchen toolset.
Some vegetable salads contain cooked ingredients. Egg salad has boiled eggs. Seafood is often cooked as well. Some vegetables themselves are boiled or steamed. Yet, everyday kitchen appliances will be sufficient for vegetable based salad.
Salad Dressing
A common dressing for vegetable salad is vinaigrette, which is prepared using a bowl and a whisk. Creamy dressings are prepared in a similar way, although a mixer of a food processor may be employed. For boiled dressing double boiler is recommended. Dressing recipes are presented in the Dressing section. For vegetable salad recipes, refer to the subsection below.
